VOLUNTEER

Volunteering at Challenge Melbourne

We’re assembling an enthusiastic team of volunteers to make the 2016 Challenge Melbourne event a success.

Who can volunteer?

The best thing about volunteering at Challenge Melbourne is that anyone can get involved. We have a variety of roles to cater for any age, fitness level and availability. See our Volunteer Roles section below for more details.

Volunteer Kit

All of our volunteers will receive:

  • A Challenge Melbourne Event T-shirt
  • Water and fruit
  • Coffee voucher

We will also make a donation to a club/community group of your choosing as a thank you for your participation.

Volunteer Briefing

Volunteer team leaders will be required to attend a full race briefing in the week prior to the event.

Volunteer Post-Event Function

Following the event, we invite all our volunteers to join us for a post race BBQ. Further details on this function will be made available closer to the event.

Volunteer Roles

Race Kit & Showbag Packing

These assembly lines are hives of activity as you pass the time by sharing stories, telling jokes and making friends.

Office Assistants

Gain an insight into the behind-the-scenes efforts of preparing an international event by assisting with a variety of clerical tasks in the weeks leading up to the event.

Body Numbering

Inking race numbers onto lots of fit, tanned bodies – it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it!

Aid Stations

A key part of the athletes’ support team, you’ll be providing them with essential nutrition and hydration on the bike and run courses. Working in a team of 8-12 people, this is heaps of fun and you get lots of interaction with the athletes.

Road Marshals

Our bike course takes in one of the most picturesque roads in Melbourne, but to be a success we need road marshals to keep both the athletes and other road users safe and aware of each other.

Transition Area

In this role you’ll be organising the athletes’ gear bags, assisting them in the change tents or simply pointing them in the right direction around the Transition Area. You’ll also see some of the most stunning bikes around in the Transition Area, and it will be your role to ensure that everyone’s pride and joy is checked-in and checked-out safely and securely.

Finish Line

Share each athlete’s moment of glory as they finish their Challenge. You’re right in the centre of the action as you assist athletes from the finish line to the Recovery Tent (requires moderate level of fitness).

Set-up and pack-down

This event will transform Green Point Reserve into a buzzing live site, and we will be assembling hard-working teams of volunteers to work with the Operations team to assist with setting up and packing up the venue.

Please note there will be a high degree of physical labour involved with this role, but the finished result will leave you highly satisfied.

University Placements

Looking to work in Sport and Events Management? Challenge Melbourne will be offering several university placements in the following departments:

  • Athlete Services
  • Operations
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Sponsorship

The length of these placements will vary depending on the department, and will be determined as positions open from July 2015.
